Pilot Educational Program for Graduate Women in STEM

The purpose of the Creating a Community for Women Graduate Students in STEM Program (CCWGS) is to create a profoundly supportive environment for women graduate students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) through an innovative pairing of science and the arts. The project is helmed by PI Dr. Silvia Mazzula, Professor of Psychology, John Jay College, and Executive Director of the Latina Researchers Network, and co-PI, artist and womenís equality activist Gioia De Cari. The activities of the project include: A performance of co-PI Gioia De Cariís award-winning national hit play, Truth Values: One Girlís Romp Through M.I.T.ís Male Math Maze, an immediate post-performance on-stage plenary session discussion with prominent leaders in STEM and diversity, and a networking event that incorporates an opportunity for graduate women to dialogue with each other, faculty mentors, and speakers in a more intimate and structured setting.
